Arroyo orders DOH, DA to be ready vs swine flu

MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has ordered the Agriculture and Health departments to take all precautions to prevent swine flu from reaching the Philippines.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the measures include inspecting ports to prevent the entry of pork from Mexico and the United States, and mobilizing quarantine measures.

The President ordered us to take all steps to prevent the avian pandemic threat from reaching the Philippines. The DA has been inspecting ports to ensure pork products from the US and Mexico do not come in.

He said the Department of Health is also mobilizing quarantine requirements in the country's airports.

Remonde said the DOH also has instructions to "make sure we will be safe from this problem."

Sa awa ng Diyos swine flu free pa tayo [When Mrs. Arroyo learned of the problem she mobilized all agencies to act. Thank God we are still swine flu free as of now]," he said. - GMANews.TV
