Noli surprised over 'Arroyo will run in 2010' story

MANILA - Vice President Noli de Castro said he was surprised over the report that President Arroyo is allegedly planning to run as district representative of Pampanga in the 2010 elections.

The vice president said Mrs. Arroyo has never mentioned such a plan during their meetings.

De Castro reacted to a report published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoting Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman about Mrs. Arroyo’s political plan in the 2010 elections.

The report was denied by Pangandaman.

Even Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap was also surprised by the report.

Yap said he was present during the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting this week, and Mrs. Arroyo did not talk about her plans for 2010.

Yap added that the president was not affected by her critics, and is focusing on her work to make sure that the country will not fall into recession.

De Castro, meanwhile, said he is confident that there will be elections in 2010.

He explained that Mrs. Arroyo knows that a no-election scenario will only cause political upheaval, and that it will not be allowed by the public.
